Hong Kong Premier League club Kitchee held a press conference on Friday, April 19th, to announce the hosting of a preseason match against England’s top-flight side Manchester City. Named as Jockey Club Kitchee Center Cup, the event will take place at 8pm on Wednesday, July 24th, at Hong Kong Stadium.
General manager of Kitchee, Wilson Ng, expressed to the media that it took almost two years from the initial discussions to finalize the first ever match of Manchester City against a Hong Kong club. The aim is to provide local fans with a rare opportunity to see the top quality of European football. Kitchee players will equally be beneficiary, as coach Alex Chu explained. It will be part of the team’s pre-season training. Manchester City have promised to bring the whole squad, including the main stars and future newly-signed players, although the player list will only be confirmed at a later date.
As part of the event, Kitchee will organize a gala dinner on the eve of the match, in which City’s coach Pep Guardiola will share his coaching experience.
Sponsored by EDPS System Limited to celebrate their 45th anniversary, the Jockey Club Kitchee Center Cup will be one of four stops of Manchester City in Asia this summer. The team will first play in Shanghai and Nanjing for the Premier League Asia Trophy, before they continue their journey to Hong Kong. They will wrap up their Asian tour with a friendly in Japan.
Standard price categories for the match in Hong Kong are HK$ 350, 590, 890, and 1,190, with concessionary tickets available for students and senior citizens at $250. Public ticket sale will commence on Friday, April 26th, via www.cityline.com, as well as at Cityline ticketing outlets and Tom Lee Music branches on the following day. Members of the Kitchee Bluewave Fan Club and the students of the Kitchee Academy will receive a HK$ 50 discount, with eligibility to purchase a maximum of four tickets.
