Kitchee and Eastern shared the points in a top of the table clash held at Mong Kok Stadium in front of a restricted sell out crowd of 3101 spectators.
Eastern had the better of the first half and their best chance fell at the feet of Lee Ka Yu who fired straight at Wang Zhengpeng when sent clear down the right. Kitchee offered little aside from a twenty yard drive from Seb Buddle that was beaten away by Yapp Hung Fai.
Five minutes into the second half and Kitchee took the lead. Dejan robbed Leung Chun Pong deep in the Eastern half and the Montenegrin forward placed the ball beyond the reach of Yapp to score his fourth goal in four games.
In a half of few chances, Kitchee stood firm until a moment of magic from the ever tricky Everton Carmago drew Eastern level. Cutting in from the right, the Brazilian curled a delightful effort into the far corner past a despairing Wang.
1-1 it finished which leaves the title race wide open at the halfway stage, with both sides having played seven games apiece and only a point separating them. Next up for Kitchee is a trip to Pegasus on Wednesday while Eastern visit Rangers next Saturday.
