On the second matchday of the FA Cup quarterfinal, R&F and Happy Valley battled for another spot in the semifinal at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground. Giovane and Igor Satori ran the show against Happy Valley with a hat-trick as R&F dominated with a comfortable 4:0 win in the FA Cup quarter-final, joining Pegasus in the last four.
As expected, R&F had much of the movement right from the start but Happy Valley kept their defensive shape well by not allowing much actual goal attempts. The first close chance came almost after half an hour from Igor Satori, whose left-footed curling effort was sent just over the bar. As the game grew, R&F was edging closer and had a goal disallowed for offside at 34′, when Happy Valley failed to clear the ball after Lam Ka-wai bouncing off the post for Giovane’s tap-in. However, the deadlock finally broke a minute later, when Igor Satori drove down the left before squaring it to the unmarked Giovane, who swiftly swept it home to make it 1:0.
The lead was doubled only two minutes after the break, as Giovane was sent clear by Igor Satori past the defence and dribbled past To Chun-kiu to bag his second of the day. In the 62nd, Giovane netted his hat-trick with a free header from, again, his feeder Igor Satori’s freekick. Either side has not since geared down despite the scoreline, however, both teams struggled to find the targets. At 73’, Serge Deble failed to add on the score as he fired wide on a one-on-one on at a counter-attack. Ten minutes later, on top of his three assists, Igor Satori rounded the game off with a low shot to the bottom corner of the net, after To Chun-kiu parried out Lam Ka-wai’s initial close-range attempt.
R&F will face the winner from Southern vs Taipo at the semi-final next Sunday at Tseung Kwan O behind closed doors.
