Helio: “Eastern District Will Do Better Next Season”

Tai Po were crowned Hong Kong FA Cup 2026 winners at a sun-baked Mong Kok stadium. The regional side, whom had already won the Senior Shield this season, built a commanding lead through two close range finishes from Philip Chan Siu-kwan in the 14th minute and in first half injury time respectively.

A Baking Hot Afternoon

There was brief respite for Eastern District when Valentino Kuach Yuel scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute due to handball.

Tai Po – FA Cup Champions

Tai Po had the chance to extend their lead with their own penalty call after a protracted VAR check though Marcao did not convert. Tai Po held on through ten minutes of injury time and were crowned HK FA Cup champions 2026.

Eastern District, despite the heartbreaking defeat, can reflect on a successful debut season and reaching a cup final.

Captain Helio, so long a mainstay of the domestic game, was gracious in defeat and said that Eastern District will only bounce back stronger.

“It was hot for both teams today! Tai Po have a very experienced team and they have played in many finals and we know they have a tough team.

In the first half, we were not completely ready and they scored two goals. In the second half, we (Eastern District) played better & we deserved to score even more than one goal but they killed the time and finals are like this. Congratulations to Tai Po!

I am very happy about Eastern District’s first season (in the HKPL) as we have been in a final and we played some good games and I hope next season, we will do better!”
