Kitchee progressed to the Sapling Cup final after winning 3-1 over Dreams FC. Krisztian Vadocz’s gave Kitchee the lead in the first half, but a goal from youngster Lam Hin-ting put the teams again on level. Eventually, a brace from substitute Alex Akande restored the lead for Kitchee and booked them a place in the final, where they will face Sapling Cup specialists Tai Po.
The Dreamers started the game with a very defensive approach, but they had a chance to open the scoreline with a counter attack in the sixth minute. Arkaitz Ruiz’s shot was first blocked by Dani and then saved by Guo Jianqiao. On the other end, Jared Lum’s long shot in the 14th minute was well saved by Tse Ka-wing. During the following corner, Dreams’ defense was unable to clear the ball and Krisztian Vadocz hit a fierce shot into the back of the net, giving Kitchee the lead in the 15th minute.
Dreams was like a different team in the second half and started producing a lot of good chances. However, Kitchee had a chance to extend the scoreline just four minutes after the break when Barak Braunshtain’s unmarked shot went wide. Dreams got an equalizer just a minute later when Lui Man-tik’s cross found Ignacio Martinez who set up Lam Hin-ting to equalize from close range. Dreams continued to play with much aggression, but Kitchee managed to retain more possession and finally took the lead back in the 71st minute, when Alex Akande used his skills to went past several defenders and hit a clever finish past Tse Ka-wing.
Kim Dongjin, who was booked in the first half, was given a second yellow in the 78th minute. But just when Dreams seemed to use the advantage of having one extra player on the field, Tse Ka-wing took too long to clear a backwards pass, allowing Alex Akande to block his clearance and to score from close range in the 84th minute.
As a result, Kitchee progressed to the Sapling Cup final where they will face Tai Po on May 19th. The Greens beat Pegasus 2-1 earlier on Saturday.
