After finishing as 5th in the latest Chinese Super League season, Shanghai East Asia met with HK champion Kitchee to compete for the annual Hong Kong-Shanghai Inter-Club Championship. After Shanghai’s 6:1 victory on Wednesday, the 2nd leg on Saturday, 8-Nov 2014, lacked any motivation and hence bigger interest. After 90 minutes, which featured mainly the B-team of the CSL side, East Asia and Kitchee finished with a fair, but goalless draw. The almost empty Hong Kong Stadium saw a few good chances, but overall not much ambition. On a 6-1 aggregate, it was nevertheless East Asia’s 5th consecutive title, after they had taken over the representative role from Shanghai Shenhua in 2010. Maybe it’s time to reinvent this Inter-Club Championship?
