The Hong Kong Jockey Club was presented as the main sponsor of a new annual 1-game competition between the league champion and the season play-off winner. A quasi equivalent to the FA Community Shield in the English Premier League, this year’s community cup will see the sides of Kitchee and South China.
In total, the Jockey Club has put HK$ 1 million on the table for this event. HK$ 250,000 will be awarded to the winner and HK$ 100,000 to the runner-up. Both teams have also chosen a charity to which they donate HK$ 100,000 and HK$ 50,000 respectively, plus 20% of the net proceeds.
The rest of the sponsorship money is “to be shared among seven other premier league clubs, so as to help them better prepare for the new challenges of the Hong Kong Premier League”.
What’s the competition finally worth, we will see on Sunday, 3 pm, Mong Kok Stadium. Tickets go for HK$ 80 (adult) / 30 (senior, student)
