On Friday June 14th, a hot and sweltering night, Hong Kong football, celebrated the incredible achievements of Dr. Veronica Chan Yiu Kam.

A friendly three team tournament was undertaken at Kings Park to honour Dr. Chan’s incredible journey and efforts to promote the women’s game across the Asia-Pacific and the world.

The games were conducted in a friendly manner and many of the players were well-known stars from yesteryear who had previously been in the squads of some of Dr. Chan’s teams.

At the recent AFC Congress in Bangkok, Dr Chan was recently recognized by the Asian football confederation with the AFC Distinguished Service and Lifetime Achievement Awards honour.

Dr Chan laid the foundations for the growth of women’s football, not only across the Asia Pacific, but the entire world.
Women’s football has grown exponentially through the past two decades and millions of girls and women of all ages are actively involved in the beautiful game in a whole range of roles; from playing to media to coaches.

The first Asian AFC Women’s champions league is set to kick off in August with the eventual winners set to receive around USD1.3 million.
