A week before the Hong Kong Premier League season opener, Yuen Long Football Club held their own press conference at Yuen Long City Hall to finalise their preparations for the new season.

The event began by announcing and signing of a new partnership. Sun Bus, a subsidiary company of KMB, are to be the club’s main sponsor, with the company name also featuring on the home and away jerseys.

In his introductory speech, club chairman Wilson Wong expressed his satisfaction with the team performance last year and the home attendance reaching 1,400 on average per game. Moreover, he stressed the magnitude of youth development within the Yuen Long community.

As a district club, their lower budget could be a decisive factor in the success of the team. However, Hong Kong national team head coach Kim Pan-gon, who was also in attendance at the press conference today, is impressed with Yuen Long, noting the team’s unity and their ability to come up with solid performances with limited resources.

With a budget of $8 million, Yuen Long have added three new Brazilians to their roster, the most exciting of which is Everton Camargo who tallied 10 league goals in 18 appearances for Glory Sky last season. He is joined by fellow countrymen Rafael Des Santos Lacerda and Walter Soares Belitardo Junior. Lacerda will pair with veteran Fabio at the heart of the Tangerines’ defense, with Junior adding depth to midfield along with Randelovic.

Yuen Long host R&F next Sunday at Yuen Long Stadium for their season opener, with the club running a ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ scheme for the match.
