Battling Southern come from behind to beat Lee Man

Southern District recovered from a half time deficit on March 10th to claim all three points with a committed second half display in front of 401 spectators at Aberdeen Sports Ground.

Lee Man started the game on the front foot, looking to exploit a fragile confidence in the Southern side, and the away team took the lead after just ten minutes. Patient play down the left from Yu Pui-hong saw the number 27 cross for Stefan Pereira who chested the ball down for Kitchee-loanee Matt Lam to lash home a half volley from the edge of  the box.

Although Southern came back into the game following a sluggish start, it was Lee Man who should have grabbed the second goal. Pereira missing a golden one-on-one situation was well smothered by Tse Tak-him in the home goal.

Seemingly buoyed by their improved end to the first half, the Aberdeeners found themselves in front within 15 minutes of the restart. First a cross from the left saw away keeper Felix Lux rush out of his goal to try and claim the ball, only to misjudge the flight and get beaten by Marcos de la Espada who headed into an empty net. Then came the winner, when Michael Luk’s left wing corner seemed destined for the net directly, only for Felix Luk to palm it out from underneath his own crossbar. Unfortunately for him, though, it fell straight to Wellingsson de Souza on the penalty spot who sent an acrobatic overhead kick searing into the back of the net.

Southern held out for the win with Lee Man struggling to get back into the game, besides a last minute free kick from Periera that would have heralded an undeserved point for the visitors. Next up for Southern is a Sapling Cup match against R&F, whilst Lee Man face Tai Po in the same competition.
