The preliminary squad and dates for the annual Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, its 41st edition since eatablishment, have been announced. On January 6th Guangdong will host Hong Kong in the Provincial People’s Stadium in Guangzhou, and on January 9th Hong Kong will take on Guangdong for the return leg at Hong Kong Stadium. The selection, which is usually a B-team and not the senior representative team, will be managed by Michael Boris, the new development coach of the HKFA. The German previously coached the U21 team of Hungary as well as German lower division sides such as Sportfreunde Lotte.
The Guangdong FA has selected some CSL regulars, including Lu Lin, Chen Zhizhao, Chang Feiya, Ma Junliang, Chen Weiming, and Wang Peng of Guangzhou R&F. Another well-known player is Lin Chuangyi of current CSL champions Shanghai SIPG. In order to qualify for selection the players either have to currently play for a Guangdong team or call the province their place of birth.
