Tai Po FC’s Green Force, the newly established fan team, held its first official training session on January 8th. The activity was as popular with the community as it was during the trial session, with a little over 30 members showing up for practice. The management stressed that the hope is for Green Force to anchor the club further into the Tai Po community, and give fans another way to meet with the players and enjoy the game together.
The guest coaches included defenders Lee Ka-ho, Fung Hing-wa, and Yeung Chi-lun, alongside midfield pair Philip Chan Siu-kwan and Wong Wai. First team coaching staff Chan Yuk-chi, Lui Chi-hing, and Li Hang-wui joined the session as well. The focus was put on techniques for ball control and movement training, testing agility and stamina. And just like the end of the first trial session, the night ended with a friendly game between the fans, chosen by the guest coaches themselves.
This is arguably a great step forward for the club. The practice helps the process of community building and Tai Po FC has become more ingrained into the local community as a district side. Fans have a chance to both communicate with and learn from the players and team staff. If there ever was a way to try to make the club stick in the mind of residents and attract more people to watch local football, this really does seem like as good a place to start with.
For the moment, training sessions will take place every Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm at the Kwong Fuk Park Football Pitch. The sessions are free of charge and only require a first-time registration on the club’s Facebook page. Tai Po FC hopes that in the near future the times could become more favorable for those who may be getting off work to join as well.
