A new edition of the Macau FA cup kicked off on May 31. Coming as surprise of most people, this season’s edition only includes Elite League clubs.

The structure of the competition features two play off matches between Tim Iec and Macau U23, as well as Ka I and Hang Sai. The winners of the first match will play against Cheng Fung and the winners of the latter will face current title holders C.P.K. The remaining matches of the quarter-finals will see Monte Carlo against Policia and the final match will be the ever exciting clash between Benfica Macau and Sporting Macau on June 30th, offering one more Lisbon derby in Macau.

The last match between the two clubs saw a historic result, since it was the first ever win for Sporting Macau against their rivals Benfica, meaning that for the FA Cup clash, Benfica will try to seek revenge.

The semi-finals will be played on July 7th, but there is still no date for the big final. Some expect that the final may be played in the Macau Stadium, which has been undergoing maintenance this year. Therefore, all league matches are played at Lin Fong Stadium.

The FA Cup will be the last opportunity for some clubs to claim silverware this season. Traditional sides like Benfica Macau, Ka I and Monte Carlo are already out of the title race and will turn their maximum attentions to the cup now.
