The first half of the Macau Elite League is completed, with 9 of 18 rounds played. C.P.K. are comfortable in the lead, followed by Ching Fung, who had an important win last week against Ka I, confirming their status as the best of the rest.

Ching Fung and Ka I played against each other in the most anticipated match of Round 9, with both teams just separated from each other by a single point. Ka I were trying to recover the second place in the standings after a surprise defeat, but they eventually let Ching Fung leapfrog them as the closest C.P.K. chasers.

The match was a tight contest with equal chances on both sides, but it was Ka I who opened the score. At the beginning of the second half, newly signed Thiago Fernandes scored the first goal of the match. After that Ching Fung started to increase the pressure and scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute through the team’s star player William Gomes. As the game was coming to an end, it almost looked like the draw would be the final result, but a late goal scored by U Hoi Ka, four minutes into stoppage time, gave all three points to Ching Fung, while sinking Ka I to the fifth position.

This means Ching Fung will have the perfect opportunity to close the gap to leaders C.P.K., since both teams will face each other in Round 10. Despite the confidence that Ching Fung have right now, C.P.K. can also build on great results, including last week’s 5-1 thrashing over Sporting Macau, with goals scored by Pang Chi Hang (2), Danilo (2) and Diego Patriota. Following their first defeat in the season to Monte Carlo in Round 7, C.P.K. responded with a high scoring win, showing that the previous loss may just have been a bad day.

Equally regaining their momentum, Benfica Macau thrashed Tim Iec also 5-1, putting behind the recent defeat against Sporting in the Macau derby. Nicholas Torrão scored a hat-trick, while Denilson added the remaining two goals.

Monte Carlo, who are also in the fight for the runners-up spot, won against Hang Sai 3-2, climbing to the third position, just one point behind Ching Fung. In the remaining match of the round, Policia beat Macau U23 4-1, confirming that it will be really difficult for the Macau youth team to survive one more season in the Macau Elite League.

Besides the top of the table clash between C.P.K. and Ching Fung, Round 10 will see another interesting match when Benfica take on Ka I. The losers are expected to drop out of the title race. Monte Carlo may be able to recover some ground since all direct opponents will play against each other, while they themselves face Policia. Tim Iec square off with Macau U23 in a relegation dogfight, and eventually Sporting will lock horns with Hang Sai.
