Premier League 2015/16 – Overview

On August 27th the HKFA have finally announced the details for the 2015/16 Hong Kong Premier League season, which will officially kick off on September 12th.

The 9 participating teams (with their respective home grounds) are Kitchee (Mong Kok Stadium), Eastern (Mong Kok Stadium), Pegasus (Hong Kong Stadium/Mong Kok Stadium), South China (Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground), Yuen Long (Yuen Long Stadium), Rangers (Kowloon Bay Park), Wong Tai Sin (Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground), Dreams (Sham Shui Po Sports Ground) and Southern (Aberdeen Sports Ground). The season is planned to end on May 7th, 2016, with 4 simultaneous games. Throughout this year, Pegasus will only play 5 of their home games in Hong Kong Stadium and the remaining 4 in Mong Kok Stadium.

Similar to last year, the league will consist of 18 rounds, with 1 team being forced to rest every week due to an uneven number of league participants. Therefore, South China won’t make their first appearance until September 26th. In addition, there will be 3 cup competitions (FA Cup, League Cup, Senior Shield) with a fourth one pending approval. The HKFA also extended the title sponsorship contract with BOCG Life (Bank of China Group) for 3 more seasons until 2018, giving the league the official name “BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League”. As usual, Nike will provide the match ball and Karvo the referee uniforms. Last year’s official marketing slogan “Dare to Dream” has been replaced by “Let’s Go Crazy”.

The Premier League matches will be broadcast online by on.cc and can be watched on their website or via their mobile app.
