FIFA fines HKFA for booing own anthem, throwing object

As expected, FIFA published the result of their investigation against the HKFA for breaching the disciplinary code in two instances: Hong Kong fans booed the Chinese national anthem and threw a 250 ml tetra pack onto the pitch during the World Cup Qualifier game against Qatar on September 8th. FIFA warned the HKFA earlier on, after fans had jeered the anthem twice in June at Mong Kok Stadium.

According to FIFA, “the Hong Kong Football Association is liable for the improper conduct among the supporters of its team and is therefore in violation of articles 67 par. 1 and 3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code”. The HKFA has to pay a fine of about HK$ 40,000 (CHF 5,000) and has been warned that more severe sanctions could follow if similar incidents happen again. This could include a higher fine, a deduction of points or a home game behind closed doors.
